U.S. turkey exports for the first five months of this year set a record in value, and egg and broiler exports posted gains in volume from the same period a year earlier, according to new trade data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
Vietnam, Haiti, Turkmenistan, Ghana, Turkmenistan, Gambia, Angola, Dominican Republic, Mauritania, South Africa, Colombia, Hong Kong, Nicaragua, China, Qatar, Jamaica, and Guatemala registered tremendous gains in broiler exports from the same period a year earlier.
Broiler exports for the first five months of this year were 1,259,425 metric tons, up 0.2 percent from the same period of last year, while export value was $1.824 billion, down 2.8 percent. Of the total shipment, 50.0 percent or 629,526 tons were exported to the top six markets, including Mexico, Cuba, Philippines, Canada, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Exports to Mexico in January-May 2026 were 282,619 metric tons, down 3.6 percent from the same period a year earlier. During the same period, Brazilian chicken exports to Mexico were 94,329 metric tons, up 9.2 percent year over year, while Chilean chicken exports to Mexico were 7,568 metric tons, down 32.2 percent.
Exports to Cuba decreased by 17.5 percent to 82,319 metric tons, while shipments to the Philippines dropped by 7.7 percent to 74,028 tons. Exports to other important markets were Canada, 71,289 tons, down 2.2 percent; Taiwan, 60,821 tons, down 25.7 percent; Vietnam, 58,450 tons, up 37.1 percent; Guatemala, 57,628 tons, up 3.6 percent; Ghana, 44,323 tons, up 44.1 percent; Haiti, 43,214 tons, up 56.9 percent; Angola, 42,341 tons, up 29.2 percent.
Cumulative turkey exports for January through May this year were 80,847 metric tons, up 14.1 percent from the same period a year earlier, while export value set a record at $393.8 million, up 41.1 percent. The increase in export value is due in part to increased exports of value-added turkey products such as prepared turkey meals and turkey sausages and franks. Of the total quantity exported, 89.9 percent or 72,716 metric tons were exported to the top six markets, including Mexico, Canada, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Jamaica, with Mexico alone accounting for 82.4 percent or 66,578 metric tons.
Total egg exports (table eggs plus egg products in shell egg equivalent) for the first five months of 2026 increased by 20.1 percent to 69.0 million dozen. The value of those exports decreased by 53.8 percent to $106.1 million.
