U.S. turkey exports for the first half of this year set a record in value, and egg and broiler exports posted gains in volume from the same period a year earlier, according to new trade data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
Ghana, Angola, Vietnam, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Turkmenistan, Gambia, South Africa, Colombia, Mauritania, Guatemala, China, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Qatar, Bahamas, and Peru registered tremendous gains in chicken exports from the same period a year earlier.
Chicken exports for the first half of this year were 1,527,581 metric tons, up 0.2 percent from the same period of last year, while export value was $2.263 billion, down 2.4 percent. Of the total shipment, 50.4 percent or 770,451 tons were exported to the top six markets, including Mexico, Cuba, Canada, Philippines, Taiwan, and Guatemala.
Exports to Mexico in January-June 2026 were 351,590 metric tons, down 3.4 percent from the same period a year earlier. During the same period, Brazilian chicken exports to Mexico reached 119,688 metric tons, up 33.8 percent year over year, while Chilean chicken exports to Mexico were 9,621 metric tons, down 26.0 percent.
Shipments to Cuba decreased by 19.5 percent to 94,760 metric tons, while exports to Canada dropped by 3.2 percent to 91,474 tons. Exports to other important markets were Philippines, 83,973 tons, down 16.1 percent; Taiwan, 78,513 tons, down 20.3 percent; Guatemala, 70,141 tons, up 5.7 percent; Vietnam, 64,448 tons, up 32.1 percent; Ghana, 55,565 tons, up 52.0 percent; Angola, 54,878 tons, up 46.4 percent; Haiti, 50,144 tons, up 42.1 percent.
Cumulative turkey exports for the first six months of this year were 95,950 metric tons, up 11.7 percent from the same period a year earlier, while export value set a record at $459.6 million, up 34.1 percent. The increase in export value is due in part to increased exports of value-added turkey products such as prepared turkey meals and turkey sausages and franks. Of the total quantity exported, 89.2 percent or 85,599 metric tons were exported to the top six markets, including Mexico, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Jamaica, with Mexico alone accounting for 81.5 percent or 78,200 metric tons. Total egg exports (table eggs plus egg products in shell egg equivalent) for the first six months of 2026 increased by 34.5 percent to 89.9 million dozen. The value of those exports decreased by 48.6 percent to $131.6 million
